Another Side of Social Security

When you think about Social Security what comes to mind?

For many the answer might be economic assistance. But since its inception Social Security has evolved into much more.

The Social Security web site will link you to information about pregnancy and caring for newborns. Programs and services for families can be found there, as well as topics such as home ownership and paying for education.

Are you trying to decide what to name your baby? A click on the side menu will bring up the most popular baby names for your state. For a broader choice, go regional. Having twins? There’s a file for this group too.

Could be you’re wondering what people named their babies years ago or how popular your own name was in the year you were born. On this same site you can search through a roll call dating back to 1880.

The side menu will also take you to an article about identity theft and email scams. Another link will tell you what the numbers on your social security card mean. The FAQ page answers concerns you may have about the future of social security. And to learn what the SSA is doing to protect your Social Security number see New Rules For Getting A Social Security Number And Card.

Kid’s Place features stories and games that teach children about the social security program. A Youth With Disabilities section contains personal experience articles, resources, programs and projects.

There’s even a financial investment site [Broken Link Removed] spotlighting topics such as starting a small business and responding to life events. Check out the interactive Money Quiz while you’re there and order a free “My Money” tool kit.

Now, what do the words “social security” make you think of?
