Last Minute Filing Tips

Even if the federal government "shuts down", your tax return is still due Monday, April 18, 2011. Here are tips to help you file on time, while avoiding glitches.
Forget frivolous arguments. Think you have a religious, constitutional or legal argument for not filing or paying tax? The IRS has heard them all - and they're all bogus. You can learn why in an IRS-issued, 84 page booklet "The Truth About Frivolous Tax Arguments".
Remember special circumstances. Did you start a small business? Suffer through a natural disaster? Go back to school? All of those events can earn tax breaks that save you money.
Ignore the hype about quick refund loans. Why? High interest rates and fees eat away your refund. Opt for direct deposit and wait the week or two it takes for your tax refund to drop into your bank account.
File electronically. No postage, direct acknowledgement from the IRS that your return was received and a faster refund. What's not to like?
