Fish!
by Stephen C. Lundin, Ph.D., Harry Paul, and John Christensen
Hyperion, New York, 2000, ISBN 0-7868-6602-0, 107 pages
Looking for a book that will set you on the path of being able to do what
you love?
This isn’t it.
Indeed, Fish! takes that idea and turns it over – instead of spending your life searching for what you might love to do, take the work you are already doing and learn to love it. In other words, bloom where you are planted.
The book is based on work environment of the Seattle fish market, Pike Place Fish, and follows a fictional banking supervisor through her task of converting her ‘just-in-this-job-for-the benefits’ department into an enthusiastic team.
It’s a short, quick read that makes two assumptions: First, that you are in a position to change your work environment, and second, that your supervisors will permit you to make changes. If you’ve worked in an office environment for a number of years, you may not believe either assumption is valid.
Of course, that attitude may be exactly why you ought to read the book.
