The Credibility Gap
by

The Credibility Gap is growing.

Over the past few years, the Gap, once a narrow fissure separating the towns of Reality and Guvspeak, has expanded into a canyon. Experts say the phenomenon, known as "trust squandering", took place at an unprecedented pace.

"Reality and Guvspeak used to be within spitting distance of each other," says a geologist who studies the lay of the land in the area. "Now they're divided by a huge empty space."

The citizens of Guvspeak are certain the Credibility Gap can be fixed. They point out that in the past, deepening fissures were repaired with gullibility fill, a plentiful natural material mined in certain parts of the country.

Residents of Reality disagree. They believe gullibility fill is far too expensive, and add that it's unlikely the Gap will be repaired anytime soon.

"That is not a shovel-ready project," says one, pointing to the depth of the chasm.
